(2021) For the past year, we’ve removed ourselves from our shared world to protect people we love, but also people we have never met and will never know. On February 4th, a peak of 5,117 people died from COVID-19 in the U.S.
For me, the process of puncturing 5,117 holes into a metal sheet was a meditation, a moment given to each life lost on the bleakest day of the pandemic. A paper veil over the light gives motion and connection to those lives. For the viewer, this piece is a way to glimpse the enormity of grief caused by a virus that took the last breath of so many.
